Diyarbakir

A first selection for the book "Transit Anatolia",  which I hope to get ready next year.
This picture shows kids from the Sur neighbourhood coming here to cool down in the very hot summers.
The cold and clean water has its source in the Karaca mountains. This place called "Anzele" - Ayn-ı Zelal, meaning "pure water" - was famous, since women used to wash here clothes, dishes etc. until the 60 ies of the last century. Watching these kids in their overwhelming temper, laughing, crying, fighting, playing, enjoying the moment, gives you an idea about life, troubles, culture and history in South-East Anatolia.
